Trivia

    Album

  • This film with original music composed by Vasant Desai used two songs from other films/composers - Aa Ja Re Pardesi (Madhumati, 1958) by Salil Chowdhury and Tujhe Jeevan Ki Dor Se (Asli Naqli, 1962) by Shankar - Jaikishan.
  • This was Jaya Bhaduri's first film in a lead role. She had earlier acted in Statyajit Ray's "Mahanagar" (1963).
  • This 1971 film by Hrishikesh Mukherjee was remade in Tamil as "Cinema Paithiyam" (1975), starring Jayachitra and Kamal Haasan.[MR10]

    Song

  • Bole Re Papihara - Vasant Desai based this song on the Raag Mian Ki Malhar composition of Sadarang, the pen name of a musician called Niyamat Khan, who served in the court of the Mughal emperor, Mohammed Shah Rangila.
  • Bole Re Papihara - Vasant Desai may have based the antara of this song, on the tune of the antara of another song he had composed a few years ago -"Jhir Jhir Barse Sawani Ankhiyan" ("Aashirwad", 1968).[MR10]
  • Bole Re Papihara - This popular Vasant Desai song, sung by Vani Jayaram, had Vasant Achrekar on the tabla, Jairam Acharya on the sitar and Zarine Daruwala on the sarod.
  • Hari Bin Kaise Jiyoon Ri - This song was not included in the film. The director, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, used a song from another film, "Aa Je Re Pardesi" ("Madhumati", 1958) instead of this bhajan. Some consider the inclusion of this Lata Mangeshkar song in the movie as the director's effort to reconcile with Lata after having recorded three songs by Vani Jayaram and none by Lata.
  • Hari Bin Kaise Jiyoon Ri - The flute in this song, composed by Vasant Desai and sung by Vani Jayaram, was played by Manohari Singh.[MR10]
  • Humko Man Ki Shakti Dena - Vasant Desai's composition for this song almost did not get recorded because of director Hrishikesh Mukherjee's desire to use a Rabindra Sangeet tune. Vasant Desai convinced Mukherjee to listen to Vani Jayaram sing his composition before deciding. When Mukherjee heard Desai's composition, he agreed that Desai's tune was better and used it for the film.
