Trivia

    Album

  • Salil Chowdhury used the music in the interlude of Aaja Re Pardesi to compose the tune for a whole new song in the album - Ghadi Ghadi Mora Dil Dhadke.[MR7]
  • Although not a regular in Salil Chowdhury's team, Dattaram Wadkar, played the dholak for him for Suhana Safar Aur Yeh Mausam Haseen, Aaja Re Pardesi and Ghadi Ghadi Mora Dil Dhadke.[1]
  • This film's distributors and even the film's star, Dilip Kumar, were not in favour of Bimal Roy's choice of Salil Chowdhury for the film's music. Bimal Roy went ahead with Salil despite the opposition. Salil Chowdhury's music for the film redeemed Bimal Roy's judgement and also helped resurrect his own faltering career.[MR10][MR11]

    Song

  • Suhana Safar Aur Yeh Mausam Hasin - There are different accounts of how Mukesh landed this iconic song. According to one account, this song was offered to Talat Mahmood first but Talat re-directed it to Mukesh to help revive his career. According to another account, Salil Chowdhury had initially wanted Hemant Kumar to sing this song, but was persuaded by Shailendra to pick Mukesh since his voice was better suited for Dilip Kumar.[2][MR3]
  • Aaja Re Pardesi - Lata Mangeshkar won the first Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer for this song. This was the first year of this award category. In fact, this award category was instituted when Lata boycotted the previous year's Filmfare Awards function and demanded for a separate award for singers. Till this song, Filmfare only awarded music directors in the music category.[MR3]
  • Aaja Re Pardesi - Salil Chowdhury used his background score for "Jagte Raho" (1956) in the opening bars of this song.[MR7]
  • Aaja Re Pardesi - The flutes in this Salil Chowdhury song were played by Sumant Raj and Tribhuvan.[MR10]
  • Dil Tadap Tadap Ke Kah Raha Hai - Salil Chowdhury derived this tune from the popular Polish folk song "Szla Dzieweczka" composed by Stanislaw Hadyny.
