Trivia

    Album

  • The story of this film was based on the 1941 Hollywood film "Charley's Aunt" which itself was based on the spectacularly successful play by the same name, written by Brandon Thomas.
  • This 1962 film had a rather convoluted genesis. The writer Shashi Bhushan had offered his script to Guru Dutt. Impressed by it, Guru Dutt started shooting the film with Kishore Kumar and Waheeda Rehman in lead roles. As was common practice by film makers of that time, Guru Dutt submitted one completed reel for the censor's board review. When the censor board rejected the film, Guru Dutt canned the film and returned the script to Shashi Bhushan. The writer then bumped into Lekh Tandon, a struggling film maker who was on the verge of quitting Bollywood. Lekh Tandon liked the script so much that he bought in on the spot. After reworking the script with his fried Abrar Alvi, and after having being turned down by Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor, Lekh Tandon turned to Shammi Kapoor. Tentative about working with a newcomer, Shammi Kapoor demanded he get the opportunity to see the first three reels of the film and then decide if he wanted to continue. Lekh Tandon's tenacity paid off when Shammi Kapoor gave him the thumbs after the first three reels. The film went on to be big commercial success.
